This is the model for Liverpool's unbuilt Catholic Cathedral from the 30's. Truly monumental in scale, it would have been taller than St. Paul's in London and St. Peters in Rome!
Designed by Sir Edwin Lutyen it would have cost £3m before the war when it was commissioned, and the Crypt built but that had rose to £27m in '47 so they had a competition for something else cheaper and got the ugly (imho) £1.8m 'Paddy's Wigwam' design. Shame really- this monster would have dominated Liverpool's skyline!
